Beautiful Moon: A Child’s Prayer – Gorgeous artwork, lovely message, and reads like a poem.
Julius the Baby of the World – This one, along with all of Keven Henkes books, is laugh out loud funny. It’s especially great for the arrival of a new sibling, but is fun to read all the time.
The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear – This classic with its bright colors and fun story delight people of all ages – not just preschoolers.
Whoever You Are – Reminds us again and again how big and beautiful the world is and ultimately, we have more in common than we have differences.
The Paper Bag Princess – Because how can you not love a book that teaches a girl to recognize a bum in prince’s clothing.
Mr. Squirrel and the Moon – This was a recent addition to our library, and I adore it. Stunning illustrations and a whimsical story about a squirrel and a troublesome moon.
Bread and Honey – This was a staple in my childhood. When it came time, I tried to steal all the Frank Asch bear books from my parents because they were out of print. My mom wouldn’t let them out of the house. Finally, years later, they’ve reprinted them! They’re truly the best. Popcorn is another favorite.
And my most favorite picture book is ever is one my daughter and I created together when she was 7. I purchased a blank hard-back book from Amazon, and we researched, wrote and illustrated the book together. It’s a great and super inexpensive project to work on with any of your kiddos who love drawing and writing!
What are your all-time favorite picture books? Any I have to add to our collection?!?
