I can never be accused of not having Texas pride, but this past week took it to a whole new level. I’m so proud to be a Texan and a Houstonian. It’s been very strange watching Hurricane Harvey and the aftermath unfold from outside Houston, and a huge part of me just wanted to go “home” and be with our family and friends there. But all I could do was pray from afar. I’m so thankful to see our family and friends loving each other, loving their neighbors and praising Jesus in the storm. I know there’s a long road ahead of rebuilding and recovery, so if you’d like to give, here are few ways to do so.
Samaritan’s Purse – a trusted organization offering relief in conjunction with local churches. They will be on the ground for months to come. You can give here.
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief – assisting in the care of up to 60,000 displaced Texans in addition to preparing thousands of hot meals and performing mud-out, chainsaw and cleaning services to restore survivors’ homes. You can give here.
My aunt and uncle, Kim and David were rescued by boat from their home in Friendswood and lost their cars and everything in their home. A friend set up a page to help with some of the financial burden as they rebuild over the next four months or so. You can give here.
Faith Bible Church – my parent’s church North West of Houston is on the ground working with flood victims, and you can give specifically to their efforts here.
UMCOR – Our old United Methodist congregation in South West Houston is already working on clean up efforts and money can be directly donated the UM Committee on Relief. You can give here.
Houston friends, you are in my thoughts and prayers, and I’m even more thankful to be coming home three times in the fall.
